Peking University

Peking University (PKU) is the most prestigious university in China and a world class institution for teaching and research. Founded in 1898, PKU is the first national university in Chinese modern history and has a long tradition of scholarly excellence. More than 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students are currently enrolled.

The university campus is situated at Haidian District in the north-western suburb of Beijing, in an area called Zhongguancun, where you can feel the heartbeat of China’s information technology industry.

The campus, known as "Yan Yuan" (the garden of Yan), with a total area of 274 hectares, is located in the former site of Qing Dynasty royal gardens and it retains traditional Chinese-style landscaping including traditional houses, gardens, pagodas, notable historical buildings as well as modern buildings and architectural structures. The Peking University is known throughout China, for its beautiful campus. It is surrounded by the Weiming Lake and stands near to the Yuanmingyuan Garden and the Summer Palace.
